Petal hanging room dividers in the Wood Glen Retirement Village dining hall

The brief

Residents approached Mumble looking for a solution to make their happy hour more tolerable. After a furniture shuffle, they found the noise mitigation throughout their shared dining hall was very unpleasant.

What we did

Mumble installed hanging room dividers to help divide the space up and make happy hour a little more happy. We chose the Petal design: its open, floral cut-out pattern breaks one big room into smaller, more intimate zones without blocking light or sightlines, while the felt absorbs the chatter that bounces off hard surfaces.

Because the dividers hang from the ceiling, the floor stays clear for residents, walking frames and wheelchairs, and the furniture can keep moving around them.

The result

A dining hall that still feels open and social, where conversation no longer has to compete with the room.

Why hanging dividers? They calm a large shared room with no building work and no lost floor space.
